Spotlight on ReKrill® in the “Novel Materials” Category
Krill Design is proud to announce its selection as a finalist at the Formes De Luxe Awards 2025 in the “Novel Materials” category, thanks to ReKrill®, the 100% bio-based biopolymer made from by-products of the agri-food industry.
For the competition, Krill Design will present an innovative cosmetic packaging solution—including a jar and lid—manufactured using ReKrill® Orange, the biopolymer derived from orange-processing waste.
The Formes De Luxe Awards ceremony took place on Monday evening, September 29, during Luxe Pack Monaco (September 29 – October 1, 2025) at the Grimaldi Forum, the most authoritative international setting dedicated to excellence in luxury packaging.
Formes De Luxe Awards
The Formes De Luxe Awards celebrate each year the most outstanding innovations in luxury packaging, promoting cutting-edge materials and solutions that combine aesthetic excellence, functionality, and sustainability.
The Novel Materials category is dedicated to next-generation material innovators with strong potential for luxury applications. Finalists are selected by an expert jury based on criteria including innovation, technical challenges, material quality, aesthetic appeal, and environmental sustainability.
The Innovative ReKrill® Solution
ReKrill® is the result of a proprietary Krill Design technology that transforms food-industry by-products—such as orange peels, coffee grounds, and hazelnut shells—into functional pellets compatible with conventional plastic processing technologies, including injection molding, thermoforming, and 3D printing.
Thanks to its advanced formulations, ReKrill® matches the mechanical and thermal performance of traditional ABS and PP plastics, while remaining fully compostable and biodegradable, even in marine environments, without releasing microplastics.
The material can be customized in color, texture, and sensory qualities without requiring changes to existing manufacturing equipment and ensures a 67% reduction in CO₂ emissions per kilogram compared to fossil-based plastics.
“Our participation in the Formes De Luxe Awards with ReKrill®,” says Ivan Calimani, CEO and Founder of Krill Design, “highlights Krill Design’s commitment to developing materials that support a sustainable transition in the high-end packaging supply chain. Packaging manufacturers and luxury brands that choose ReKrill® take a concrete step toward reducing environmental impact, promoting a new vision of responsible and truly sustainable luxury.”
The exhibition at Luxe Pack Monaco places ReKrill® at the center of the international conversation on innovative and sustainable solutions for the luxury goods industry. All shortlisted products will be showcased during the event, offering brands, designers, and manufacturers the opportunity to experience firsthand a genuinely circular material solution designed for the future of luxury packaging.
