KRILLMAT presents REKRILL RECYCLABLE, a new generation of 100% bio-based biopolymer designed to combine renewable raw material origin, industrial performance, and recyclability within the plastic stream.
Developed and produced in Italy, REKRILL RECYCLABLE was created to respond to the evolution of the packaging sector and the growing focus on the requirements introduced by the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation).
Its distinctive feature is the combination of two properties traditionally difficult to integrate: 100% bio-based content and recyclability within conventional plastic recycling streams.
Why REKRILL RECYCLABLE was created: The new packaging challenge
The packaging sector is undergoing a double transformation.
On one hand, the PPWR is changing the criteria by which packaging materials are selected and evaluated, introducing binding recyclability targets and requiring proof that materials can effectively enter existing waste management streams.
On the other hand, there is a growing need to reduce dependence on fossil-based raw materials, driven by legislation, distribution demands, and consumer expectations.
For those developing new materials, this evolution has traditionally meant choosing between two paths: bio-based materials that are often incompatible with conventional recycling infrastructures, or recyclable plastics that are still largely dependent on petrochemical raw materials.
REKRILL RECYCLABLE was born precisely at the intersection of these two needs.
What is REKRILL RECYCLABLE?
REKRILL RECYCLABLE is a 100% bio-based polymer developed by KRILLMAT to combine renewable source content with recyclability within the plastic stream.
The material is developed from renewable raw materials and is designed to offer performance comparable to that of conventional petrochemical-based plastics.
Its distinctive element primarily concerns its end-of-life: REKRILL RECYCLABLE can be recycled within the plastic stream, with the possibility of keeping the material in existing recycling systems without requiring a separate composting path.
This makes the material particularly interesting for those applications where bio-based content and recyclability are becoming increasingly important criteria in material selection.
100% bio-based and designed for circularity
REKRILL RECYCLABLE was developed to overcome one of the main challenges of sustainable materials: combining the use of renewable raw materials with an end-of-life path compatible with existing industrial systems.
The result is a 100% bio-based polymer that maintains technical characteristics comparable to conventional polymers and can enter the plastic recycling stream.
The approach is therefore based on the integration of three elements:
● bio-based origin
● industrial performance
● recyclability within the plastic stream.
As Ivan Calimani, CEO of KRILLMAT, explains, the new generation of sustainable materials cannot focus on a single characteristic: bio-based content, performance, and end-of-life must be considered together.
REKRILL RECYCLABLE for industrial production
Another central element of the new material is its compatibility with processing technologies already used by the industry.
REKRILL RECYCLABLE is compatible with:
● extrusion
● injection molding
● rotational molding
● blow molding.
This compatibility allows manufacturers to integrate the material into existing industrial processes and explore its use in various sectors.
Applications indicated by KRILLMAT include packaging, food & beverage, cosmetics, and consumer products.
A bio-based material also for food-contact applications
REKRILL RECYCLABLE is also food-contact compliant in the markets indicated by KRILLMAT: European Union, United States, Canada, and Asia.
This feature supports its use in applications where regulatory compliance and material safety represent essential requirements.
REKRILL RECYCLABLE will be presented at LUXE PACK Monaco 2026
The new material will be officially presented by KRILLMAT at LUXE PACK Monaco 2026, where it will be possible to learn about REKRILL RECYCLABLE and explore its potential applications.
The presentation at the event represents an important opportunity to bring the new solution into contact with brands, companies, and operators in the packaging sector.
