Krill Design and Berlin Packaging Beauty present XOCO at PPW26

XOCO is an upcycling solution for beauty packaging born from the collaboration between Berlin Packaging Beauty and Krill Design, an Italian company specialized in the development of sustainable materials from food industry by-products.

The material was presented at Paris Packaging Week 2026, as part of a showcase dedicated to new packaging solutions capable of combining innovation, sustainability, and emotional value.

From hazelnut shells to a material for beauty

XOCO is a PP-based compound obtained from the upcycling of hazelnut shells, designed for the production of precision-molded components intended for various beauty segments, including skincare, personal care, and fragrances.

Krill Design’s contribution is part of the material development phase, with the aim of transforming a secondary raw material of agricultural origin into a solution compatible with the technical and industrial requirements of the cosmetic sector.

XOCO can be used for functional and decorative elements such as pump covers, collars, droppers, and caps for jars and fragrances, ensuring mechanical reliability, torque resistance, and compatibility with cosmetic formulations.

Tactile aesthetics and packaging storytelling

The visible organic particles on the surface give XOCO a distinctive texture, transforming the material into a narrative element. The packaging thus becomes a means of communication, capable of making the choices related to resource use and the circular approach perceptible.

This feature allows beauty brands to integrate the material’s storytelling directly into the component, without resorting to additional graphic elements.

Integration into industrial processes

XOCO is compatible with PP recycling streams, depending on local infrastructure, and is suitable for various industrial decoration techniques.
The solution therefore allows for the combination of sensory identity, technical performance, and sustainable consistency, maintaining continuity with already established production processes.

A collaboration oriented towards applied innovation

The collaboration between Berlin Packaging Beauty and Krill Design demonstrates how upcycling can translate into concrete solutions for beauty packaging, moving beyond a conceptual approach and finding application in components destined for industrial production.

XOCO represents an example of how materials, design, and industry can converge to meet new market demands.
