Krill Design becomes Krillmat, marking its evolution into a leading bio-based materials company
Milan, March 16, 2026 – Krill Design, an Italian innovator in bio-based polymers made from organic by-products, unveils its new identity: Krillmat – Biobased Polymers. The rebranding reflects a company that has evolved beyond its origins and now operates as a fully industrialized material company serving global B2B markets.
What began as a design-driven initiative has grown into a vertically integrated business focused on developing, producing, and scaling sustainable materials. Today, Krillmat operates a 3,500 sqm production facility near Milan, with an annual capacity of up to 4,000 tons and a proprietary technology protected by European patents.
The name Krillmat signals this shift. It retains the legacy of Krill while introducing a clearer, more direct language for the materials industry. The new identity strengthens its technical credibility, while the payoff Biobased Polymers makes its core proposition immediately clear.
The company’s offering remains unchanged, but becomes easier to understand and position. At its core is REKRILL® by Krillmat, a patented, 100% bio-based polymer derived from agro-industrial by-products such as citrus peels, coffee grounds, bran, and grape pomace. Supplied in pellet form and compatible with standard plastic processing technologies, REKRILL® stands out for being free from microplastics and harmful residues.
“This is not a change of direction, but the expression of what we have already become,” says Ivan Calimani, CEO and founder. “We design materials, we produce at scale, and we work alongside industrial partners. Krillmat is simply the name that makes this reality visible.”
The rebranding is accompanied by a complete overhaul of the company’s visual and communication system, including its logo, color palette, digital presence, and commercial tools.
Backed by investors, recognized by the market
Supported by international strategic investors, Krillmat is gaining traction as a next-generation player in sustainable materials and circular economy. The company has been awarded as a Best Performer in Circular Economy, received the Sustainable Development Award, and aligns its activities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
